INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING

WHEEL SPOKE PRESS

1. Lay metal felloe outside face DOWN on the padded ring.

2. Install 5/8-11 nut & washer,  the 3/4-10 nut and then the HUB (outside face DOWN) followed by the pully, plate, plumbing union, 2 washers & 5/8-11 nut. The 3/4-10 nut is a spacer to keep the lower 5/8 nut out of outer hub hole and serve as a stop during the final push.

3. Secure the hub at a “starting” height of approximately 8 3/16" between the spoke surface of the hub and top surface of plywood.

4. Install spokes in circular fashion outside face DOWN - last spoke inserted at the notch. If the last spoke will not fit - raise the hub slightly. If spokes are loose and fall then lower the hub. KEEP THE HUB TIGHT BECAUSE IF YOU TURN IT THE SPOKES WILL FALL!! Constantly check that the tendons are properly lined up with their holes and the hub end is sitting firmly on the outside of the hub.

5. After all spokes are installed, begin to move the hub downward by loosening the lower nut then tightening the upper nut. Wiggle each spoke & pull the hub end of the spoke up to position each spoke BEFORE the final push. If the spokes do not appear lined up as you begin the press, back off and reset them.  Do not begin the final press until everything is properly lined up.

6. When all spokes are in position and tight with no more wiggle  possible loosen the bottom nut all the way & tighten top nut to “HOME” the spokes.  If spokes need slight alignment, tap lightly with a soft hammer.  Too much ‘persuasion’ will crack a spoke.
